Hunting and Fishing in the fall

There’s nothing I like better than hunting and fishing. Well, that’s not quite true, sex and food are among my top five favorites but I love being outdoors. Yeah, yeah, I know, you can eat and have sex outdoors too but the mosquito bites on my ass aren’t fun.

Anyway, I read this article about quail hunting tips and thought since I now live about 40 miles from the Texas border I might run over there and see about quail hunting in Texas. I know from TV that they have some quail hunting lodges and guides as a lot of the quail hunting shows are set in Texas.

When I lived up North I shot a quali now and then but not enough to really make more than a couple of good meals in 30 yrs or so. Hunting partridge and pheasants was easier as there were tons of birds but hardly any quail.

Another thing I love to do is fish for huge walleyes in the fall but down here in Northern LA there just isn’t much walleye fishing to be had. Lot’s of bass and brim but not so many walleyes. I also happen to love northern pike fishing and there isn’t much of that down here either.

Lol, people here tend to freak out when I tell them how big northern pike get and how big here teeth are. I love to tell them stories about swimmers and waders getting bitten by Northerns or Muskies and if they don’t believe me I tell them to look it up on the net.

Then they try to freak me out about their close encounters with Gators when they are fishing some of the hot, local spots. I just laugh and tell them up north Northerns are often called Gators or Slough Sharks.

I can’t stand the heat so I stay out of the kitchen, er, I mean I don’t go fishing when it’s over about 85. Just to hot for me. I’m considering a hunting and fishing trip to Eastern SD this fall and it will be nice to get back to the cool, crisp air rather than the hot humid stuff here. At least my COPD can handle that better than the heat and humidity.
