Gerogia, our close friend and ally?

August 13th, 2008 by Old Dude World

Poor Georgia, the news keeps saying the country is one of our closest allies and good friends. Yet when invaded by Russia all Bush did was wag his finger and go naughty, naughty.

With friends and allies like us, who needs enemies? It’s the same old story. Big talk from us but when push comes to shove we sit on our hands.

Don’t you wonder why that is. Iran defies the world regarding nuclear weapons, North Korea defies the world, Pakistan is a haven for terrorists and we do nothing.

Russia invades Georgia and yet again we sit on our hands and bluster, ineffectively. I wonder what all of these countries have in common? Oh, it must be something hey have that Iraq and Grenada didn’t have or don’t have.

Neither Pakistan, Iran or North Korea can really stand up to us militarily. Russia would be a much tougher fight but in the end we should win. However Russia is much more capable than any other of the countries mentioned and our casualties would be much higher.

So why do we tolerate the terrorists in Pakistan, the BS from North Korea and the belligerent and terrorist supporting, Iran?

For the exact same reason we didn’t do anything to Russia but let Bush tell them they were naughty. They all have nukes or might have nukes. Something Grenada, Afghanistan and Iraq didn’t have.

We can barely fight the war in Iraq and with out all of the hired guns and mercenaries, private security forces, etc. we wouldn’t be able to handle the war in Iraq and Afghanistan at the same time.

We may have the most technologically advanced weapons on earth but we don’t have enough troops for an extended fight with anyone. Iraq itself has taxed our troops to their limits. Makes it pretty tough to help our own great friends and allies.

If we are going to be the world cop then we definitely need more men and women in the armed forces. We need to keep our commitments to other countries and we also need to listen to the world court.

If we are going to ignore the world court when it says something then how can we expect other countries to listen to it? If we are going to let nuclear capable, or close to nuclear capable countries defy treaties and accords and just wag our finger at them how do we get any respect from the rest of the world?

Lets see now, if I have a large friend who says he’s a good friend and will come to my aid anytime I need it and then he lets me get beat up by a huge bully and just stands there saying stop that, stop that now and does nothing else, I can pretty much guarantee you I’m not going to trust that person again, for anything.

If he needs something in the future I’m not going to help, if he gets jumped by a bunch of people I’m not even going to call the cops. I’m going to revel in his getting his ass kicked.

When people or countries don’t do what they say they will they definitely loose all the trust they had built up and everyone knows their word is no good.

Perhaps we should put a surgeon generals report on all our promises to other countries. Warning, relying on us to do what we say can be hazardous to your health and is likely to cause severe damage, injury or death.
